Tips to get the most out of your Grey Horse candle:

Trim the wick

Make sure to keep the wick trimmed to ¼” This will ensure the best possible scent from your candle and keep it from burning too quickly. Nail clippers work great for this!

Make a wax 'pool'

Soy wax has a memory and should reach a full melt pool on the very first burn. This means that the puddle of liquid wax should reach the edges of the container. If the candle is extinguished before a full weld pool is allowed, all subsequent weld pools will not go past the first.

To create a full weld pool, burn the candle for a minimum of one (1) hour for every inch of its diameter. All future burns should follow the path of the first and melt completely to the sides. Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time.

Why does Grey Horse use Soy?

NATURALLY
Soy candles are natural because they are made from vegetable oil (soybeans). On the other hand, paraffin candles are made from petroleum. As a result, soy candles do not increase CO2 levels in the atmosphere like paraffin candles. Plus, soy candles don't need any chemicals to make them smell. Since soybeans are vegetables, soy wax is naturally biodegradable.

BURN LONGER
Soy candles burn 50% longer (sometimes even more if the wick is kept short!) than regular candles. Therefore, while soy wax candles are sometimes more expensive than paraffin wax candles to buy, they are still more cost effective in the long run as you get twice as much candle!

BETTER FOR YOU
Soy candles are non-toxic because they're made from vegetable oil, have a lower melting point (so the wax itself doesn't get as hot), produce negligible amounts of soot, and don't release known carcinogens into the air. Compared to paraffin candles, soy wax candles are much healthier for people, pets and the environment. Plus, they're easier to clean (just use soap and water) when laundry gets spilled.

SMELLS STRONGER
The scent of soy candles is much stronger and more pleasant than the scent of paraffin candles. Due to the lower melting point of soy wax, there is a greater amount of liquid wax around the candle wick itself. It is from this liquid wax coil and the wick itself that the essential oils evaporate into the atmosphere.

When a candle scent is said to "throw well," it means that it fills the room with a strong, lasting scent. Soy candles not only have a great scent throw, but also have a cleaner smell. Many have noticed that paraffin wax gives them headaches. Of course, it is not the smell itself, but the extra chemicals that the paraffin puts off. Because soy burns so clean, you also get a cleaner smell!
